A Music Strange and Manifold tells of the author’s journey to healing and inner freedom from clergy sexual abuse in childhood and as a young woman. Although the early chapters deal with her childhood years in the UK, and her years as a young violinist trained at the Royal College of Music, the book has a strong South African flavour. She writes of her work in Black Sash in the 1980’s; of lecturing at a South African Catholic seminary for the training of priests; of her field work in the traditional music of Venda and of sangomas, her efforts to promote African inculturation in the seminary; her work as a lecturer at University of Pretoria and with street children. All these experiences are placed in the framework of her journey to healing. The book ends with practical recommendations for religious faith communities.
